I haven’t been windsurfing since 13th April, nearly a month so have got
right out of the swing and after last night where we got the most amazing
display of the Northern Lights where I got some cracking photos I didn’t
get to bed until 1.30 which is not good for an old boy:) Then as I lost my
glasses in the River Deben while taking pics I headed down to the
Felixstowe Ferry around 6.30 to catch low water to look for them, sadly I
did not find them, so that’s a trip to Specsavers! To be honest I was
feeling knackered and hadn’t even looked at the forecast but after
breakfast when I was just about to start my exercises I the suny back
garden it seemed breezy so I decided to hitch the trailer and head down to
Squiz Lane at The Manor end in Felixstowe to check it out. I was not
expecting to park being a Saturday but got I right by the flood gate and
things looked promising with 15/20 mph from the NE, the only problem being
it was wind with tide with high water not being until around 3.30! There
was someone fishing in the first bay so set up in the second. I was going
to rig 6.5 but I had just had a 20 mph gust so went with my 5.5 which was
OK and I did fly on every run but was really under trying to sail upwind
against the tide:( By the time I had set up and was launching the sun had
been replaced by fog making it quite spooky especially when turning a mile
out to sea and you could not see the beach! I made the mistake of heading
downwind on the first run and sent most of the session trying to beat back,
making progress was very slow going! I was joined on the water by Al Wiz
finning with 7.5, no wonder I was under with 5.5 and Luke B out winging but
he was not enjoying the bumpy condition with poor visabiltiy so only stayed
out an hour! After sailing 21 miles I finially made it back to where I
started and had a nnice chat with Al on the beach as the tide turned and
the sun came out. Al went out again fining and I should have joined him but
was knackered and we were seeing the Granddaughter later so decided to head
for home! After a nnice family visit Mag and I headed down to Felixstowe to
see if the Aurora was present again, in fact half of Felixstowe had had the
same idea and it was absolutely heaving with a job to park:( Although it
was a lovely clear night with a fantastic moon and great display of stars
there was no hint of colour in the sky tonight:(
